The Worldwide Mission Team meet regularly for prayer and planning. and encourages the church in their support of a variety of Mission groups locally, nationally and internationally. The Team helps the church to respond to needy situations which arise around the world as a result of events such as floods and famine. By working alongside other groups in the church such as Evangelism, it seeks to encourage us to reach out to our local community through various events.

Our main objective is to inform and inspire church members and the whole congregation about the mission work we support -specifically the 3 core charities (BMS, BU Home Mission & SSYI) as well as the 4 themes we have selected:

Evangelism: Through Faith Mission,
Education: GenR8,
Health: Mengo Hospital,
Poverty & Homelessness: Hands of Mercy, Philippines

The three core charities:

BMS

Originally from March, Cambridgeshire, Alan and Megan worked with the United Mission to Nepal (UMN) from 2000 to 2004, Alan as the support services transition team leader and Megan as an occupational therapist. After a period of leave of absence, they returned to Nepal in January 2007.

They are now in Surkhet in western Nepal working with International Nepal Fellowship (INF). Megan is involved with the Surkhet Programme in occupational therapy while Alan is working in programme support.

SSYI

The Shelford and Stapleford Youth Initiative (SSYI), a community based Christian charity (Charity no.  1073490), funded by our village churches, our Parish Councils, private donors and, for certain initiatives, grants from local funding bodies.

The youth club (for 8 to 15 year olds) normally meets on a Friday evening 7:00pm to 9:30pm in the Memorial Hall, Great Shelford.

For 17 years Shelford and Stapleford Youth Initiative, or SSYI, has been providing youth clubs, activities and support for the young people in Great Shelford, Little Shelford and Stapleford.
