Mission Focus for April 2026

BMSWorldvision

This is the Baptist organisation through which the love of God is shared around the world.

Alan and Megan Barker

Alan and Megan are in their third decade of service with BMS. With their three children, Alan and Megan left their lives in Cambridgeshire in 2000 and followed God’s call for them to start a new chapter as BMS World Mission workers in Nepal. They have since lived in Kathmandu, Surkhet, and Pokhara.

Together they now serve as capacity strengthening coordinators, working with BMS partners all over the world. In addition to that global outlook, Alan uses his expertise in project design and fundraising while working for a BMS Nepali partner organisation. Megan uses her occupational therapy skills, to grow rehabilitation services with a focus on supporting and mentoring young Nepali therapists. This is especially important in Nepal, where people living with disabilities and their families are often mistreated.

A family with a big heart for travel and adventure, Alan and Megan’s three children and grandchildren now live in the UK, South Korea and Vietnam. They both love to keep fit, read and also support Leicester Tigers rugby team. When Alan is listening to his beloved Blues music, you might catch Megan knitting, crocheting or sewing.

April 2026
In the last 5 years Alan and Megan have taken on a wider role with BMS – being Capacity Strengthening Co-ordinators. This is aimed at helping organisations improve their systems, structures and processes to enable them to function more effectively so that they will be less reliant on “outside” help. Alan has arranged online seminars to enable this, which has sometimes needed a translator to be involved! It also means that they sometimes travel to other Asian countries to visit BMS funded projects to see what help they might need.

Thanks to Megan’s work the country now has an Occupational Therapy service, albeit only 8 therapists for the whole country and they had to travel to India to train.

Alan and Megan are having a short visit to the UK this year in order to take part in a BMS consultation with other overseas workers . They will be visiting some of their supporting churches but sadly we are not one of the lucky ones. We will see them again in 2028 when they will be doing their final home assignment before retiring in September of that year.

Please read their very interesting newsletters which go onto the church website about every 2 months. There is a new one available now. There are also printed copies available if you prefer. There is always a message in The Link (the church's weekly newsletter) when a new one is available so if printed copies have run out please ask me.
