Staff and Leadership

Revd. Martin Cockerill - Minister (Staff)   Diana Parr - Ministerial Assistant, Elder (Staff)

Martin is married to Clare and they have three boys. He was born in Leicester and has supported Leicester City FC since he was a young boy. He enjoys cycling, running and being with his family. As a family, they enjoy being outdoors, exploring Cambridgeshire and beyond.  Martin became a Christian when he was 12 and since then has always been involved in Church life, initially at Holland Road Baptist Church in Brighton where he grew up, before leaving to study at London School of Theology.  Martin’s passionate about Church community and learning together to be more like Jesus Christ. 


Diana grew up in GSFC and became a Christian in her early teens through the ministry of the Church.  Diana previously worked as a classroom assistant and was the manager of a children’s nursery before taking on the responsibility for Children’s and Families work within the church here.  She is married to Chris and they have three children and seven grandchildren.  In her spare time, Diana enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, gardening and watching films.

Jenkin Liz  
Liz Jenkin - Elder  
Liz joined GSFC as a newly-wed with her husband Chris in 1977.  Now a retired headteacher, she divides her time between caring for her grandchildren, supporting trainee teachers, and volunteering in the community.  Liz is also a governor at Great and Little Shelford Primary School and a trustee of the GenR8 charity.  Within Great Shelford Free Church (GSFC), she feels her areas of ministry are leading worship, speaking, working with children and encouraging others.    
Jefferson Colin   Bismark
Colin Jefferson - Deacon   Bismark Donkor - Deacon
Colin became a Christian in his early teens at an Evangelical Church in Bedlington Northumberland).  Colin is married to Janet, he retired in 2011 and they now live in Sawston.  Both he and Janet quickly realised that the friendliness, family atmosphere,  and preaching of the Gospel @ GSFC confirmed their calling.  Colin's time is now divided between being Chairman of Shelford Twinning Association, their house in France, and supporting their two sons, Tim and  Nick.  Most importantly, Janet his wife is his number one priority in life.   Bismark is married to Ophelia in 2007 and they have three boys. He is originally from Ghana. He came to Britain in 2008 and trained as a Pharmacist. He became a Christian at his early childhood through a mysterious adventure visit to a local church choir. He joined GSFC in 2008 when he first lived in the village. He loves gardening and wildlife. He spends most of his time outside work with his family. He is passionate about faith, prayer and discipleship as he feels called into leadership. 
Chris Smith    
Chris Smith - Deacon   Neville Fisher - Treasurer
Chris became a deacon in 2018 and is the youngest member of the Leadership Team! He has been a Christian since an early age and is grateful to the heritage passed on by his parents. He married Charlotte in 2012 and now has two young sons, Samuel and Harry. Chris and Charlotte have been church members since 2015 and Chris is enthusiastic to play a part in seeing God’s kingdom come in Shelford.  Since completing his studies in 2010, he has been working at Johnson Matthey as an Industrial Chemist. Outside of work, he loves spending time with the family. In the rare moments when hobbies can be indulged, he enjoys running, cooking, audiobooks and following the (mis)fortunes of his favourite football team, Derby County.
  Neville  is married to Diane and has 2 children and 3 grandchildren.  Now a retired  accountant from industry, specialising in consolidation systems, his role on the  Leadership Team is Church Treasurer .

Maxine du Plessis - Church Administrator (Staff)   Tilly Akoto - Youth Worker  (Staff)

Maxine is our new administrator for GSFC. She grew up in Suffolk and for the past 10 years has been living in Bury St Edmunds. She graduated from the University of Gloucestershire in 2019 with a degree in English Literature which she loved studying. She loves getting out for long walks in the countryside and has a little kitten named Clovis who enjoys chewing up her furniture!
She is passionate about church administration and helping a church to run smoothly.
  Tilly has been working with the youth at GSFC and the community since 2016.
