Bronze Award achieved in 2018
In 2018 we achieved Bronze status, and are now close to Silver. On this journey we have been grateful for a number of volunteers who have helped lead this initiative and build an Eco-thinking culture in the church. Most recently, a team of 10 faithful volunteers formed a work party to make the land behind Cara Coffee more nature-friendly – see photos below! Some of our other highlights to date are:
Worship and Teaching: Celebrating Harvest Sunday, singing hymns that celebrate God’s creation, praying for environmental issues and incorporating caring for God’s creation in our teaching and preaching.
Buildings: Using green energy where possible and offsetting the rest, ensuring the buildings within church ownership have some measure of insulation, double-glazing and low energy lighting, and displaying notices to encourage people to turn off lights and taps.
Land: Managing our land for the encouragement of native wildlife and wildflowers, growing fruit and vegetable and providing composting facilities for Cara Coffee’s coffee granules!
Community Engagement: Putting on an Eco-fest, hosting repair cafes with 2G3S, organising outdoor events (Open Spaces), using fairtrade or ethically sourced goods in church services where possible.
Lifestyle: Providing Eco tips in our weekly newsletter, operating a communal Christmas card and ensuring church funds are ethically invested.
